Barcelona’s young sensation Lamine Yamal delivered a standout performance against Atletico Madrid, earning himself the MVP award. The game was anything but straightforward, as Barça found themselves trailing 2-0.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, they managed to stage an incredible comeback in the final moments. It was Yamal who sealed the turnaround by scoring a crucial goal, further cementing his growing reputation.
After the match, the 17-year-old forward was in high spirits as he reflected on the victory. His post-match media appearance was slightly delayed, as he had been caught up in celebrations with his teammates in the dressing room.
“We were all celebrating together in the locker room. It was a very important victory, and today we’re leaving Madrid with a different taste in our mouths,” he began saying.

Yamal’s goal was met with an emotional reaction, as he took off his shirt and sprinted towards the corner flag to celebrate with his teammates.
The frustration of being behind for most of the game had built up, and scoring such an important goal was a release of all that emotion.
“[It was] out of rage and helplessness because we were giving it our all and couldn’t score, Robert’s goal was important and I just wanted to celebrate it like that. It’s incredible what the team is doing,” he explained.
His goal against Atlético was particularly significant, as it ended a period in which he had not found the back of the net in La Liga.
However, the youngster was never concerned about his goal tally, as his focus remained on contributing to the team. He always believed that when the time came, he would score in a crucial moment, and this match proved him right.
“Was I missing a goal? I knew that if I was going to score it would be in important games. The team was winning and that was the important thing.”

Speaking about the goal itself, Yamal explained how he noticed his marker moving away, which gave him just enough space to take control of the ball and make his move.
With composure beyond his years, he capitalised on the opportunity, making it one of the most important goals of his career so far.
“When I was on the other side I saw that Gallagher was moving away from me and luckily it went in. I controlled and I hit it with everything I had. It’s perhaps one of the most important goals I’ve ever scored.”
Beyond individual achievements, Yamal underlined the importance of this victory for the team. Winning such a tough encounter sent a strong message, and with a game in hand, Barcelona now find themselves in a commanding position.
“Winning was a blow on the table, we are leaders with a game in hand,” he concluded.
