Barcelona president Joan Laporta has sent something of a message of appreciation the way of arch rivals Real Madrid.
This comes owing to Real’s stance on the efforts of the Blaugrana to register both Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for the 2nd half of the campaign.
The long-running ‘registration case’ in Catalunya’s capital was of course finally brought to a definitive close last week.
As much came upon confirmation coming to the fore that Barcelona, after being rejected by both La Liga and the RFEF, had seen an appeal to the courts prove successful.
Summer signings Olmo and Víctor, as a result, are now eligible to line out for Hansi Flick’s side once more.
This decision did not go down overly well with a number of La Liga clubs, who were quick to make public their grievances with what they evidently felt was preferential treatment afforded to Barca.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, the subject of the backlash across the Spanish football landscape was therefore put to Joan Laporta, who went on to respond:
“I will not disclose private conversations with other presidents. I am grateful to the clubs that have not taken a position against it. In a framework such as the employers’ association, we must defend the interests of all. The clubs that have positioned themselves against it, it has not sat well with me and I am against it. But there are many clubs that have not spoken out because they have legal services that know that we have acted within the law.”
Pressed specifically on the stance of arch rivals Real Madrid, who drew no issue with Barcelona’s registration efforts, the club’s president added:
“We can be the biggest rivals on the pitch, but outside, within a framework such as the employers’ association, we must defend the interests of the clubs.”
