For a while now, reports have emerged claiming that Barcelona have been working on a new contract for Fermin Lopez after his explosion in the first team last season.
The 21-year-old La Masia graduate signed a new deal with the Catalans in August last year, with that contract running until 2027 and containing a €400 million release clause.
However, the young attacking midfielder’s deal was that of a reserve team player and now that he has become a full-fledged first-team star for club and country, Barça have been working to improve his contract to reflect his current status.
In fact, journalist Miguel Rico (h/t CarpetasFCB), reports that Barcelona have already reached an agreement with Fermin Lopez over a new contract.
Indeed, there is an agreement between the club and the youngster’s agent over an improved contract, both in terms of wages and duration.

The new deal is said to run for five years and will see Fermin get a salary corresponding to his current status in the squad.
However, as things stand, Barcelona will refrain from making an official announcement and will only do so once they are back to the 1:1 rule.
With the Nike agreement expected to be completed in the coming weeks, it might not be far away before Barça return to the 1:1 rule, at which point, Fermin’s renewal, along with a few more players like Gerard Martin, Gavi, and Pedri, will be accelerated.
Fermin is currently out with an injury and is expected to return only after the next international break in October.
