Over the last few months, FC Barcelona have been linked with several highly interesting strikers as they are reportedly planning for life after Robert Lewandowski and are looking for candidates who can best replace the Pole in the long run.
In this regard, their favorite target has been the Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, who has been playing at a very high level this season and has already accumulated 23 goals and 5 assists in 33 appearances with the Premier League side.
He once again showcased his quality only last Sunday, as he helped the Magpies win the EFL Cup with a 1-2 win in the final. Isak was one of the scorers for his side, as he scored Newcastle’s second goal in the 52nd minute.
However, getting him will not really be easy for the Blaugranes. This was already so previously as the English side had slapped a starting price of €120 million on the forward.
But things seem to have gotten even more difficult as Daily Mail (h/t Mundo Deportivo) reports that the rumors of interest in their star striker from Barcelona have also reached the ears of the Newcastle United owner, Yasir al-Rumayyan, who has asked the club not to entertain any offers for the Swede.
The Sheikh took this step after he was informed about the presence of scouts from the Catalan club observing Isak in the game against West Ham United last week.
Reports from English media suggest al-Rumayyan has a special affection for the former Borussia Dortmund striker. Thus, the Magpies will not be looking to hear any offers for their star forward in the next summer transfer window.
However, there is still some time left till the current season ends, and a lot can change before the summer market opens. Therefore, it remains to be seen how his future will pan out, and whether Barcelona will be able to get him in their team.
