FC Barcelona are aware of the fact that they currently possess one of European football’s best attacks. Their goalscoring numbers speak for themselves and it is quite evidently one of the most efficient and effective attack forces in the world right now. However, even for this current Barcelona attack, a look towards the future paints a slightly worrying story.

Robert Lewandowski, now aged 36, is at an age where his future beyond a couple of years at the top level seems uncertain. Despite the fact that the Polish ace is currently in the form of his life and has even convinced Barcelona that they do not need an immediate replacement for him, there are some things that are best done with precaution.

For that reason, Barcelona has reportedly been keeping an eye out on the market for any potential player who they believe can take over from Lewandowski and become the focal point of this Catalan club. As it stands, one of their favorite options just so happens to hail from Sweden and plays in the Portuguese league.

That player, according to Fichajes, is none other than Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres. Aged 26, the Swedish ace has been making a name for himself over in the Portuguese league and now even in the UEFA Champions League with his unreal goalscoring statistics that place him among Europe’s very best.

The Catalan club believes that the player’s ability to stand out in this Sporting Lisbon team, one that is known to produce great talents and nurture them as well as per the demands of European football, is something that must be taken note of and could prove to be a key factor that Barcelona likes about him.

Moreover, having adapted well to the demands of both the Portuguese league while managing the demands of European football alongside it, Gyokeres presents himself as a very real option that could be just the kind of quality and star power that Barcelona needs for a player who is looking to replace Lewandowski.

However, it must be kept in mind that his club will not be looking to make things easy. Given the demand for this particular striker, one that goes beyond just FC Barcelona, the Portuguese club will likely look to earn a big transfer fee if he does end up eventually leaving for some other European giant.
