Barcelona see veteran as ‘untouchable’ for the present and the future, could keep him until 2027 | OneFootball

After a dull season by his standards during 2023/24, question marks were raised about Robert Lewandowski and his performances at FC Barcelona.

However, the veteran striker, now 36 years old, has silenced all his doubters and naysayers in style, recovering his best form under the management of Hansi Flick.

Indeed, Lewandowski has been in such blistering form that the Blaugrana now intend to keep counting on him for the next season and potentially even beyond that.

Renewal taken for granted

In fact, SPORT reports that Flick and Barcelona see Lewandowski as ‘untouchable’ for not only the present but also the future.

At the Catalan club, they practically consider the Poland captain’s renewal for one more year as a done deal, as the optional extension of his contract will be activated, postponing the search for his replacement for one more year.

The report further adds that Flick even sees it as possible to retain the veteran striker for a fifth season beyond 2026, although the two parties are clear that this potential renewal will be handled calmly and depending on his performances next year.

After a tense relationship with ex-manager Xavi Hernandez, who did not see Lewandowski as a starter in his project, the veteran superstar has bounced back strongly following the former’s exit.

Lewandowski is happy in Barcelona and is not considering leaving anytime soon. This season, the Pole has increased his salary, but next season, it will decrease again, and he would be willing to reduce his wages significantly if Barcelona proposed a fifth year to him.

The striker will turn 37 in August 2025, but he sees himself playing in Europe even at 38 with certainty. And he would like to do so at Barcelona only.

The idea of the sports department is to find Lewandowski a complement for the next season – a player who can give the veteran enough rest.

Several free-cost forwards are being studied, such as the case of Jonathan David, although everything is being looked at calmly.

Everything has been postponed for one more year, and perhaps two. Because at the level the Pole is at, he is untouchable for the present and the future.
