Barcelona star explains his tears after victory over Real Madrid | OneFootball

Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny has provided an insight into the reasoning behind his emotional reaction to the club’s victory over Real Madrid at the weekend.

Szczęsny, for those who may have missed it, went viral in the aftermath of the season’s final Clásico on Sunday.

After playing his part in Barcelona’s fourth successive win over arch rivals Real Madrid, a result which all but secured the Blaugrana’s status as Spanish champions, the Pole was spotted looking altogether emotional.

Szczęsny remained sitting on the turf at Montjuïc for some time following the full-time whistle, before visibly wiping tears from his eyes.

And as alluded to above, the veteran shot-stopper has since provided something of an insight as to why.

After initially stepping out of retirement to act as emergency cover for Barcelona, Szczęsny has since become an integral member of Hansi Flick’s squad.

Speaking to Canal+, in quotes relaid by Tribuna, the 35-year-old in turn explained:

“I always try to control my feelings, and not show them positively or negatively. But after the final whistle, it was very difficult for me. My eyes filled with tears a little. It was a great moment.”
