Barcelona centre-back Eric Garcia is facing a difficult decision about his future, even though the club has already put a contract renewal on the table.
According to a report from SPORT, the 24-year-old defender is open to staying at the club, but only if he feels truly valued, especially in financial terms.
Garcia, whose current deal runs until 2026, has had a roller-coaster ride at Barça but has recently become one of the most vindicated players in the squad.
After nearly leaving for Girona in December, his fortunes changed dramatically. Hansi Flick, keen on having a large and flexible squad, convinced the club to keep him.
That decision paid off, with Garcia emerging as a reliable and versatile option during the second half of the season.
Since January, Garcia has grown into an indispensable utility player, adapting seamlessly to several positions, including centre-back, right-back, and even as a pivot in midfield.
His willingness to slot in wherever needed and his professional attitude have impressed the coaching staff, especially Flick, who sees him as an important figure in the dressing room.

Despite knowing that he may not be a guaranteed starter in a squad full of elite competition, Garcia is said to be comfortable with his role, as long as his contribution is recognised and rewarded.
His form and attitude have attracted attention from elsewhere too. Como remain interested, and even a major Bundesliga club has reportedly enquired about him.
Barça’s sporting department wants to avoid a scenario where players enter the preseason with just one year left on their contract.
As such, there is a push to finalise an agreement soon. Garcia, however, is holding out for a long-term deal that comes with a significant salary increase, which is where the negotiations currently stall.
Adding another layer to the complexity is Barça’s transfer strategy this summer. The club is prioritising the signing of a full-back and also has Jonathan Tah on their radar as a central defensive reinforcement.
This inevitably raises questions about future playing time and how Garcia fits into that picture.
Ultimately, Flick’s opinion could be decisive. The coach values Garcia’s tactical intelligence, discipline, and adaptability, and he wants Garcia in the squad going forward, which could weigh heavily in the final decision.
