A headline member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is expected to miss the club’s Champions League season debut this coming week.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Dani Olmo as the player in question.
Attacking midfielder Olmo is for his part fresh off another fine day’s work, which saw the Spanish international notch one of Barcelona’s four goals in a rout of Catalan rivals Girona.
Just beyond the hour mark at the Estadi Montilivi, however, the summer Blaugrana signing sparked panic.
This came upon Olmo going to ground off the ball, before gingerly making his way from the field of play.
Hansi Flick has since confirmed that the former RB Leipzig standout will be subjected to a round of medical tests and scans on Monday, to ascertain the extent of the damage, if any.
As alluded to above, though, other sources in the Spanish media are adamant that Olmo is guaranteed to miss at least some time.
As per Barca insider Javier Miguel of the aforementioned AS:
‘There is no injury, but rather a hamstring overload. A setback that will leave Olmo out for seven to ten days, so as of today his presence for the Champions League opener against Monaco next Thursday is totally ruled out.’
The midfielder is also considered a doubt to face Villarreal in Barcelona’s next La Liga outing a week from today.
