Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final clash against Inter Milan may have ended in a 3-3 thriller, but one name stood out above the rest: Lamine Yamal.
The 17-year-old prodigy delivered a performance that left fans, pundits, and even legends of the game stunned, cementing his growing reputation on Europe’s biggest stage.
In the aftermath of the first-leg draw, Lamine spoke to CBS Sport’s star-studded panel of Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards.
When asked about his mindset on the pitch, the teenager delivered a humble but confident response.
“I try to enjoy myself, I think that’s the secret,” Lamine explained.
“I don’t think about anything and just play the football I have and try to make sure people enjoy watching the game. I haven’t done anything yet; I have a lot to do, and I hope it continues like this when I return.”
It must be noted that although Barça will need a win away in Italy to reach the final, Yamal’s belief in the team is complete.
“I’ve always thought about that from the beginning of the season,” he added.
“I have a lot of faith in my team, and I hope it will be like that. We have to win games like this to build the team’s confidence, although I think we’ll give it our all in the return leg and advance.”
During the match, Yamal hit the crossbar twice. One of those efforts drew some confusion about whether it was a shot or a cross, but he cleared it up with honesty.
“The truth is, I didn’t see Raphinha. Ferran bounced it to me, and that is why it came out like that. I wanted to shoot,” he said, smiling.
The segment took a lighter turn when Henry requested Yamal’s shirt for his son, who will attend El Clasico on 11 May.
Yamal’s reply was as charming as his dribbling: “We have to do a trade. I’ll give you mine, and you give me yours. Barça, Arsenal… whatever you want.”
The two sealed the deal, and in that simple exchange, the mutual respect between a former Barcelona forward and La Masia’s newest gem was clear.
