Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal is making a positive recovery from his recent ankle injury and could feature as a starter for the team in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club.

Reports from Javier Miguel in AS suggest that Yamal’s ankle has shown significant improvement, and he has been training with the group throughout the week.

In fact, his progress has been so promising that, barring any setbacks, there is a real possibility that he could play for around 70 to 75 minutes at full intensity in the upcoming match.

Flick will make the decision

The decision regarding Yamal’s inclusion in the starting line-up will be made by head coach Hansi Flick, in collaboration with the club’s medical staff and, of course, the player himself.

According to reports, all signs point to Yamal’s return to action on Wednesday, which aligns with the club’s initial recovery estimate.

The club had originally expected him to be sidelined for around three to four weeks after suffering a grade one ankle injury during a match against Leganes on December 15.

Yamal is ready

Contrary to some specialists who suggested a much longer absence, including some who predicted up to two months, it seems Yamal’s recovery has been much quicker.

In addition to Yamal, several other players have been cleared to play in the Super Cup. Ferran Torres, Hector Fort, and Andreas Christensen have all received the medical green light, though it is unlikely they will start in the match.

Despite not starting, their availability adds depth to the squad for the Super Cup.

With the potential return of Yamal, Flick will have a nearly full-strength team at his disposal, enabling him to field a star-studded starting line-up. This comes as a huge boost for Barcelona, who will be eager to perform at their best in the competition.
