Barcelona’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres as an attacking target has been well-documented, but the 26-year-old forward has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving Sporting CP during the January transfer window.

Gyokeres is committed to finishing the current season with the Portuguese club, emphasizing his love for his current environment.

“I want to finish this season at Sporting. I love it here,” said the forward as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

Interestingly, however, he has not completely ruled out a move in the summer, suggesting that he would consider a transfer when the timing feels right for him.

“New club? We will see when the time comes. I want to play, that’s crucial… and there will be also other factors,” he added.

Barcelona have been monitoring Gyokeres closely, seeing him as a potential long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

While the club believes that Lewandowski can continue to contribute for the next couple of years, they are also keeping an eye on alternatives, and Gyokeres is high on their list.

The Swedish striker is in high demand across Europe, with several top clubs likely to compete for his signature when the summer transfer window opens.

It is anticipated that his transfer could cost anywhere between €60 million and €70 million. Barcelona, who hold Gyokeres in high regard, are keen to add him to their squad, but much will depend on Lewandowski’s form over the remainder of the season.

In addition to their interest in Gyokeres, Barcelona have several options working in their favour. One such option is Vitor Roque, who Sporting CP pursued during the summer.

Another factor working in Barcelona’s favour is their 50% stake in any future sale of Francisco Trincao. If Barcelona decide to give up their rights, it could provide them with additional leverage in negotiations to secure Gyokeres.
