Barcelona versatile defender’s renewal now advanced; could sign a two or three-year deal | OneFootball

Having come close to leaving FC Barcelona in the January transfer window, Eric Garcia has become a vital player for the team.

It was Hansi Flick who stopped the versatile defender from leaving and the manager’s faith in the Spaniard has paid off.

As such, Flick and Barcelona are eager to tie Eric down to a new contract, with his current one expiring at the end of next season.

Renewal advancing

Now, SPORT reports that Garcia’s contract renewal is advanced and as such, there is calmness within the Barcelona sporting department with his future.

The player wants to continue and Barça are confident that an agreement will be reached for two or three more seasons.

Although the urgency is lower due to the positive relationship between the parties, the deal should be closed before the start of the pre-season.

Garcia has proven his value to the team with his versatile nature and adaptability while he has also chipped in with some vital goals and assists.

In 43 appearances across all competitions, Garcia has bagged five goals and two assists.

Be it at centre-back, defensive midfield, or now at right-back in Jules Kounde’s absence, the Spanish international has proven himself to be a reliable operator and has shown a very good understanding of Flick’s system.

As such, the manager and the club are keen on furthering his stay for a few more years and the feeling, as far as his renewal is concerned, is positive and it could be sorted in the coming weeks.
