Robert Lewandowski saw a valid goal get ruled out during Barcelona’s 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad on Sunday night due to a faulty offside call from the semi-automated VAR system.
The wrong call has naturally created a feeling of frustration at Barça and the lack of clear and proper explanation about the same from the authorities has done little to help.
After all, the Referees Technical Committee (CTA) stood by the decision and VAR official Clos Gomez also played it down, saying there was no mistake.
As such, Mundo Deportivo now reports that Barcelona will request explanations from the CTA regarding the offside call made against Lewandowski as the image provided does not clarify that the foot shown as ahead belongs to the forward.

The Catalan giants convey that the intention is not to express outrage with the refereeing at Anoeta.
Instead, the club’s motives are to understand the actual functioning of the semi-automated offside, when the VAR referee intervenes to generate the image, and how it is possible that the drawing ultimately produced differs from the actual image.
Beyond the fact that this action was detrimental to Barcelona, as in the 13th minute Hansi Flick’s side would have taken the lead if Lewandowski’s goal had stood, the objective of the club is to ensure this situation does not repeat in the future – neither with them nor with any other club.
The various images of the play clearly show that Lewandowski had his foot behind the Real Sociedad defender Nayef Aguerd.
