Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has slowly but surely faded away from Hansi Flick’s plans in recent weeks and it is still unclear why.

The La Masia starlet was largely seen as the biggest revelation of the season from the academy and made himself an undisputed starter under the German tactician.

Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Deportivo Alaves earlier this month, however, appears to have marked a turning point in his season for his prominence has simply not been the same.

Casado was hooked off at half-time in the aforementioned game and replaced by Frenkie de Jong, giving the team more control through the middle and helping create more chances.

As relayed by SPORT, however, Casado has only started one of Barcelona’s six games since that night and it is clear that the manager’s faith in him has relatively dropped.

The 21-year-old came on for just 26 minutes against Valencia, nine minutes against Rayo Vallecano, and did not even feature against Atletico Madrid and Sevilla.

What is most surprising, however, is the fact that he had no part to play even coming off the bench last night when the team was in dire need of maintaining stability.

Having taken off Pedri, and bringing on Gavi, Fermin Lopez, and Eric Garcia, Flick compromised the team’s stability and virtually gifted Los Rojiblancos a way back into the game.

Casado is determined to prove his worth once more by performing to his best in training and his limited opportunities.

If Flick’s decision to not utilize him last night was a misjudgment it can be given a pass, but if not a serious investigation has to be conducted as to what caused the youngster’s fall down the pecking order despite his impressive performances.
