FLW takes a look at what would be a dream scenario for Charlton Athletic this summer.
Charlton Athletic could be in for a dream summer if everything goes to plan during the next few months.
The Addicks currently find themselves in the midst of a promotion push in League One, with a place in the play-offs at the end of the season seeming like a real possibility for Nathan Jones' side as things stand.
The last time Charlton reached the play-offs in League One was at the end of the 2018/19 campaign, when Lee Bowyer guided the club into the Championship with a dramatic victory against Sunderland in the final at Wembley.
Charlton supporters will be desperate to see a repeat of that success this year, and promotion back to the Championship would be the perfect way to kick-start a dream summer for those associated with the Addicks.
However, the last two seasons that Charlton have spent in the second tier have ended in relegation, so if they do win promotion this term, they will need to get things right in the summer transfer window to avoid dropping back into League One again.
Preparing for a long-awaited return to the Championship would no doubt be part of a dream summer for Charlton, but the club would also need to complete some good business during the transfer window to make it an ideal off-season, so with that in mind, let's take a look at a few deals that could be beneficial if they do win promotion.
You cannot underestimate the value of Championship experience as a newly-promoted team, so if Charlton do make a dream start to the summer by winning promotion, Bristol City forward Harry Cornick could be one player Nathan Jones considers bringing in.
The 29-year-old worked with Jones during their time together at Luton Town, and he showed that he was capable of scoring goals in the second tier, so a reunion could be beneficial for all parties.
Cornick has had limited opportunities at Ashton Gate this season, and with just over a year remaining on his contract, he could be available for a reasonable transfer fee this summer.
Davis Keillor-Dunn has impressed for Barnsley this season, and while he is likely to have plenty of potential suitors this summer, the possibility of getting regular first-team opportunities could make Charlton an attractive option if they get promoted.
The 27-year-old showed what he is capable of when he nearly scored an outstanding individual goal at The Valley earlier this season, and he has been the Tykes' talisman in his debut season at Oakwell.
He is a player who can create chances out of very little, which is what Charlton have lacked at times so far this term, so if the Addicks were able to complete an ambitious swoop to sign him this summer, it would give them a quality option either up front or behind the strikers.
Charlton midfielder Terry Taylor was sent on loan to Northampton Town in January after failing to nail down a place in Nathan Jones' side.
The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2026, so it would be ideal for the Addicks if they could sell him for a reasonable transfer fee during the upcoming transfer window.
League One clubs Barnsley, Rotherham United, Bolton Wanderers, Shrewsbury Town and Stevenage have all been linked with Taylor at various points this term, so now that he has made an impact on loan at Northampton, a bidding war breaking out in the summer would be the dream scenario for Charlton.
