Bayern chief confirms meeting with Wirtz's parents

Bayern Munich supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß has revealed that the parents of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz visited him at his home last year.
Wirtz has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern, but Hoeness insists a potential transfer wasn't discussed at the meeting.
“They were at Tegernsee, that was about nine months or a year ago. It wasn’t about a transfer at all - we’ve just stayed in touch, and I’ve occasionally offered the family some advice, for example regarding sponsorships. The father approached me to ask if I could help him,” Hoeness told Bayerischer Rundfunk.
While Hoeneß maintains that a transfer wasn't on the agenda, speculation around Wirtz’s future continues to grow, with Bayern reportedly keen to bring the 21-year-old to Munich - ideally as early as this summer.
But Hoeness throws cold water on the idea that the deal is a sure thing, pointing to Wirtz’s contract situation.
“Let’s not forget he still has two years left on his contract with Bayer Leverkusen. And if Leverkusen say, ‘We’re not letting him go', then we can turn around. Acting as if the deal is already done is, in my opinion, totally unserious," he said.
After recently stating that Bayern’s financial resources are no longer what they once were, Hoeneß clarifies that the club could still comfortably finance a high-profile transfer such as Wirtz.
“That doesn’t mean FC Bayern isn’t a completely healthy club—one that could, if it wanted to, absolutely afford a transfer like that,” he said.
