Bayern Munich have announced that Manuel Neuer will miss the foreseeable future due to a calf strain picked up in the 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen last night.
The goalkeeper picked up the injury after celebrating Bayern’s second goal of the night, which was scored by Jamal Musiala after Leverkusen keeper Matej Kovar dropped a cross. Neuer was then substituted off and replaced by Jonas Urbig who was handed his Bayern debut.
Although the length of Neuer’s absence was not mentioned, Sky Germany and Bild both report that the 38-year-old will be out until the international break. This means Urbig will be in goal for the games against Bochum and Union Berlin in the Bundesliga as well as the second leg against Leverkusen next Tuesday.
A possible return for Neuer could be Bayern’s game at home against St.Pauli after the international break.
Neuer’s absence means that Urbig will now be given a run of games as Bayern number one. At previous club 1.FC Köln he started the season as their number one, before being demoted to number two.
