Belgian media anticipate Tedesco’s exit: Van Gaal considered after unsuccessful Conceição negotiations | OneFootball

It seems Domenico Tedesco will not play a role in Belgium’s World Cup qualification. According to national media, the search for a successor is already in full swing, with even Louis van Gaal being considered.

It is certainly not the first time that Van Gaal’s name has been mentioned in Belgium. Het Laatste Nieuws knows that the Belgian association (KBVB) are looking for a national coach of stature or: “Someone with (ideally) a track record and (certainly) a great personality.” Belgian pundits came to this conclusion after leaked negotiations with Sergio Conceição were revealed after he eventually moved to AC Milan.

“A name like Louis van Gaal (73) is free and in principle also affordable, although his age does not play in his favour.”

Belgium were knocked out of Euro 2024 in the round of 16 by France under Tedesco and offered relatively uninspiring performances in the Nations League in a group with France, Italy and Israel.

As fingers point at this as the main reason for Tedesco’s dismissal, in the search for a successor, there are some big names that aren’t available. Hein Vanhaezebrouck and Michel Preud’homme arrive as two key men that will not be considered for the position.

The KBVB still has some time for a search, as the national team’s next fixtures come in March when the Rode Duivels face Ukraine in relegation matches to decide Nations League A status.
