It was another thrilling matchday in the Bundesliga with all but one game averaging at least two goals. There were upsets, first points, and plenty to talk about. Here is your Bundesliga recap from matchday four.

Bayern are Back

Bayern Munich continued on in similar fashion from their 9-2 thrashing of Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League and inflicted a 5-0 defeat on Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion.

Aside from the usual suspects of Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala, it’s Michael Olise who is starting to grab the headlines. The former Crystal Palace man has now found the net four times in just two matches.

Bayern have been scoring for fun so far this season and they’ll be looking forward to welcoming Xavi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen on matchday 5.

Super Stuttgart

Stuttgart must love playing Borussia Dortmund. In their last four meetings in all competitions, Stuttgart have scored 10 and conceded just twice. Last weekend’s 5-1 win over BVB has got the attention of the entire league.

Perhaps this performance wasn’t all too surprising. VfB were outstanding against Real Madrid earlier in the week and if wasn’t for the gloves of Thibaut Courtois, they would have come away with at least a point.

Stuttgart carved open Dortmund like a Halloween pumpkin and gave them a big reality check early in the season.

If people didn’t think Stuttgart could handle both European football as well as the Bundesliga, they appear to be very wrong.

As for Dortmund, you feel head coach Nuri Şahin is already under pressure. One more defeat in this fashion and it could spell the end for the new coach.

Historic Points

Holstein Kiel secured their first-ever point in the Bundesliga with a vital 2-2 draw against VfL Bochum. Having led early on, Kiel found themselves down 2-1 at the break. However, after a quick free-kick and a delicate touch by Shuto Machino in the 89th minute, Kiel were able to secure their first-ever point in the Bundesliga.

The game was one which both teams were desperate to win but equally would have hated to lose. The shared spoils makes it all the more tighter down the bottom of the league.

Elsewhere, St. Pauli put in a determined and inspired display to secure their first point of the campaign as they drew 0-0 with RB Leipzig.

Marco Rose’s side made five changes to the team that lost to Atletico Madrid earlier in the week but they still came under heavy pressure from St. Pauli. Overall, it was the home side that created the most chances and really should have scored at least once in this game. However, you feel St. Pauli will be happy to be off and running, having taken a point from a team with ambitions to win the title.

Around the Grounds

Elsewhere, there was a last-minute winner for Bayer Leverkusen as they played out an entertaining 4-3 at home to VfL Wolfsburg. Neither side looked comfortable defensively but in typical B04 fashion, they found a way deep into injury time to secure all three points.

Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt continue their solid starts to the season with 3-0 and 2-0 victories respectively. Somewhat going under the radar at the moment, both teams have taken 9 out of a possible 12 so far this season. Both sides will be ones to watch out for when it comes to fighting for European positions this campaign.

Two goals in two minutes was enough to secure the win for Union Berlin over TSG Hoffenheim. Union are still unbeaten this season and will fancy their chances against Borussia Mönchengladbach on match day five.

Mainz secured a big 3-2 win against Augsburg with both sides reduced to ten men. The win keeps Augsburg near the bottom whilst giving Mainz some early security.
