The Blues take on their London rivals in-front of a near-capacity crowd at Stamford Bridge. Victory would send Chelsea 10 points clear of Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Chelsea boss Bompastor said that the focus is on performance rather than extending a points advantage.
“Our mentality is more to focus on the game,” Bompastor said. “Every game is worth three points, no more than that, so I think we focus on ourselves and our mentality.
“In every game, we need to have the right mentality to win, so we don’t focus on the table, we take it game-by-game and focus on how we can perform best on gameday.”
Arsenal arrive at Stamford Bridge undefeated since their 2-1 home loss to Chelsea back in October. Renée Slegers is yet to lose when leading The Gunners and Bompastor issued congratulations to her opposite number for her recent success.
She said “I want to congratulate Renée because she’s doing a really good job and they’ve been unbeaten since the last time we played them. I think they’re in a good run, really confident.
“It’ll be a big game, good for us because as players and as a manager, you want to be involved in these kind of games. We are really excited because it’s a great game with great players and managers; it’s a good thing to be going up against Renée. She has shown what a great job she has done with the team, they’re on a really good run.
“Having the opportunity to play in-front of our fans will be a big help. We’ve sold a record number of tickets, so everyone is excited. The players love to play at Stamford Bridge, it’s great.”
Chelsea have already beaten Manchester City and Manchester United when they’ve come to South West London on the back of long unbeaten runs and Bompastor says that results breathe confidence into her side.
She said “Results are a big part of the confidence for the players and manager, that’s the main thing in football. You can play a really good style of football but when you don’t win, you’re not happy about it.
“The winning mentality is something really big and it brings you and gives you a lot of confidence. We could not have been in a better position going into this game but we are still expecting a tough game.”
Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal kicks-off at 12.30pm.
