In a display of unwavering support, Chelsea director Jonathan Goldstein has emphatically stated that head coach Enzo Maresca will remain at the helm throughout the season, despite the team’s recent struggles in the Premier League.
The Blues have found themselves mired in a tough phase, having secured only three wins in their last 11 Premier League outings. This slump in form has seen them slide to sixth place in the league table and exit the FA Cup. Amidst this backdrop, the voices of criticism have grown louder, with many questioning Maresca’s capacity to steer the club back to its winning ways.
However, Jonathan Goldstein, in a recent interview with BloombergTV, offered a robust defence of Maresca’s tenure at Chelsea. “He is doing a great job. Chelsea have started the season very well,” Goldstein remarked, reflecting on the initial success under Maresca’s leadership. Despite the recent downturn, Goldstein remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. “The last six weeks [they] have been finding their feet a little bit more. But Enzo has clearly done a great job in bringing the team together, bringing the talent through and we’re very optimistic for the rest of the season, and how that plays out,” he added.

When pressed about Maresca’s future with the club amidst the ongoing scrutiny, Goldstein was categorical: “100 per cent”.
The concern around Chelsea’s form was compounded by a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton last Friday, a performance that Maresca himself described as the team’s nadir since his appointment. “Probably since I arrived that is the worst performance, especially in the moment we are in,” Maresca lamented after the match. He acknowledged the team’s position, just points shy of third place, which made the loss even more disheartening.
Maresca expressed his frustration and apology to the fans, emphasizing the need for greater desire on the pitch. “The performance is not one you want to offer, so we are very upset, and especially very sorry for the fans who were here, and in general to our fans, because in this moment you cannot offer this kind of performance with 14 games to go, now 13 games to go. In terms of desire, we need to show more.”
With the team gearing up for their next match against Aston Villa on Saturday, all eyes will be on Maresca and his squad to see if they can turn their fortunes around and live up to the faith shown by Goldstein.
In these challenging times, the clear endorsement from the Chelsea director not only boosts Maresca’s position but also sends a signal of stability and continuity within the club. As the season progresses, it will be intriguing to see how Chelsea navigates these turbulent waters under Maresca’s leadership.
