Chelsea’s injury picture isn’t looking too bad entering into the crucial last few weeks of the season.
The Blues have suffered plenty on the fitness front this term with a number of key players missing time, though that situation has cleared a lot in the last few weeks to provide a timely boost to their dual hopes of securing a top-five finish in the Premier League table to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and winning the Conference League.
Chelsea already have one foot firmly planted in the final in Wroclaw on May 28 after winning 4-1 in Stockholm against Swedish side Djurgarden on Thursday, with the semi-final second leg coming up at Stamford Bridge this week.
Enzo Maresca’s resurgent side are also now winners of three straight in the top-flight, defeating much-changed champions Liverpool 3-1 at home on Sunday to follow narrow triumphs over Fulham and Everton.
A huge clash between fourth and fifth looms against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday, with games against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest also coming up before the end of the season.
Here is all the latest Chelsea injury news and return dates, with Robert Sanchez having returned from a knock to start in goal against Liverpool and Malo Gusto also now back fit. Mykhailo Mudryk remains unavailable for selection.
Sanchez and Nkunku were both ruled out of Chelsea’s trip to Djurgarden, staying behind in west London to receive treatment.
But while Sanchez returned from his knock swiftly against Liverpool, Nkunku did not due to what his manager had described initially only as a “small problem”.
Maresca confirmed after the game that Nkunku could now be facing up to two more weeks on the sidelines.
“Christo will be out for, I'm not sure, I think one week, two weeks,” he said. “We are going to see. He will be out for the next 10 days, 15 days.”
Potential return date: Friday May 16, vs Manchester United (H) or Sunday May 25, vs Nottingham Forest (A)
The teenage Spaniard - a summer signing from Barcelona - had played an important role in Chelsea’s Conference League campaign during the league phase, scoring six times in as many appearances.
However, he has not featured since coming off the bench in the 2-1 win over West Ham on February 3, missing three months now with a hamstring problem.
Maresca said in late April that Guiu was “getting closer” and perhaps only a week or two away from returning for the final run-in, but confirmed before the Liverpool game that he was still out.
Potential return date: Sunday May 11, vs Newcastle (A)
Young Argentine defender was recalled early from his loan spell with former club Boca Juniors back in January, but has yet to make his first-team debut for Chelsea.
Maresca confirmed before the game against Liverpool that Anselmino is injured, with the BBC reporting that the club are exercising caution with a minor muscle issue with the player having previously been dealing with a hamstring injury.
It remains to be seen if he will contribute to the first team at all this season, with suggestions that he could yet play for Chelsea at this summer’s revamped Club World Cup in the United States.
Potential return date: Club World Cup (June)
It has been another injury-plagued season for Fofana, who underwent hamstring surgery in early April after his latest short-lived comeback and was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.
Potential return date: Next season
Like Fofana, summer signing Kellyman will not return this season after undergoing surgery in March following a season wrecked by hamstring issues. He has yet to play for Chelsea since joining from Aston Villa for £19million last year.
Potential return date: Next season
