Chelsea set to recall Chalobah from Crystal Palace loan | OneFootball

Chelsea have decided to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace following injuries to centre backs Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

Chalobah graduated from Chelsea’s academy, making his first team debut in the 2021 Super Cup, but joined Palace on loan in the summer. But with Fofana and Badiashile are both sidelined, the Blues have opted to bring Chalobah back to add more depth in central defence.

Oliver Glasner proved a fan of Chalobah in his short stint at Crystal Palace, handing him 12 Premier League appearances in the first half of the season and being rewarded with three goals from the 25-year-old.. He was left out of the squad for Palace’s FA Cup third round tie against Stockport County, with Glasner citing “contractual issues” as the reason for his absence.

The Austrian was evidently disappointed at the prospect of his departure. Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Leicester, he said: “My wish and [Chalobah’s] wish is that he stays with us.

“Chelsea loaned him to us to give him minutes, to improve his game. This is what he did. But I think he’s not finished. It’s a one-year loan deal. But we’ll see.”

Chalobah’s first opportunity to appear for Chelsea will come next Monday, as the Blues host Wolves at Stamford Bridge.
