Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi is expected to join French club Rennes in a £10 million move during the ongoing January transfer window, and Parkhead legend Chris Sutton has reacted to the news.
The Scottish Premiership club still have plenty to play for this term after booking a place in the Champions League playoff round for the round of 16, and manager Brendan Rodgers needs quality squad depth to impress in the second half of the season.
Losing Kyogo could be a big blow for Celtic, but there are plans to sign a replacement and Sutton insists whichever striker they are signing must be ‘pretty special’.
The former Bhoys striker took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share his opinion.
The Hoops reportedly want to sign Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden as a replacement for Kyogo, and the former Denmark youth international has been on the radar of Rodgers for a while.
The 22-year-old has 14 goals across all competitions so far this season and could be the perfect forward for Celtic going forward.
However, Kvistgaarden is a man in demand as Eintracht Frankfurt are also keen on recruiting his services, and the Premiership club have to table the best bid to have a chance of landing him.
The Dane has proven himself over the years but whether he has what it takes to hit the ground running at the Parkhead club remains to be seen as that is what Celtic need most in any signing right now.
Hoops have won the Scottish League Cup this term and will look to complete the domestic treble by also winning the Scottish Cup and Scottish Premiership title.
Progressing as far as they can in the elite European competition will also be a top goal for Rodgers and his men, and they need top players to get it done.
