Clare Hunt is keen to focus on the learnings from the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday evening at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Elisabeth Terland fired the visitors ahead after just six minutes later in N17 and, while we restricted United to very few opportunities following their opener, we couldn’t find the equaliser as we suffered our first defeat in seven WSL games.
Despite the disappointment of conceding the early goal, the Australia international put in a strong defensive performance under the lights in the capital, winning 67% of her tackles, making 16 defensive actions and providing a huge block to deny Ella Toone in the early stages of the second half.
While Clare was frustrated to not find the leveller, she was keen to highlight the overall team’s performance throughout the 90 minutes and the learnings to take away from it.
“We didn’t have many opportunities moving forward, but we had some really good moments in the transitions, I think that’s a positive,” she said, speaking to SPURSPLAY after the game.
“I think defensively, we defended for our lives to be honest and we showed how capable we are defensively, hopefully in the games moving forward, we don’t give them that chance in the opening minutes. I’m pretty happy with the team’s performance despite the result, take a lot of learnings from this and move forward."
Asked about playing in front of thousands of supporters at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, she added: “It’s amazing to have the fans here, it’s a beautiful environment and allows us to play to our best, so we’re grateful to play here and hopefully we can continue to have more games here, but it’s amazing to have the supporters with us."
