Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero, a report has claimed.
Romero has long been linked with a switch to Spain's top flight, where Real Madrid continue to be named as possible suitors. The fact he is approaching the final two years of his contract has only amplified the speculation.
Further contributing to the uncertainty surrounding Romero's future with Tottenham were comments he made during the international break, in which he hailed Argentina's medical staff for helping bring an end to the injury hell which he has endured at club level this season.
It is claimed that Romero is frustrated with Tottenham's management of his fitness - he has already missed 27 games across all competitions this season.
Relevo state Romero is Atletico's "dream signing" this summer as they prepare to bolster at the back. Contact has been made with the centre-back's representatives to make that desire known.
The report goes as far as to claim Romero is prepared to push for a move away from Tottenham if Atletico, or other suitors, make a genuine attempt to sign him. Any deal could require a significant financial investment as the Premier League side eye a profit on the £42.5m paid to sign him in the summer of 2022.
Romero is not the only Tottenham player on Atletico's wish list as manager Diego Simeone is also eyeing up a move for midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.
Progress over a deal for Bentancur, whose contract expires in 2026, is far from advanced at this stage, but preliminary talks have been held over a possible summer switch.
