Sheffield United have been active in the January transfer market so far, with the team competing for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Chris Wilder has been keen to make changes to his first team squad in order to improve their chances of a top two position.

It has been reported by The Star that a deal has been agreed with Leicester City for Tom Cannon, who is set to become their first major signing of the new ownership era.

Anis Ben Slimane has also sealed his permanent exit, as well as Ismaila Coulibaly, but there could be even more exits before the 3 February transfer deadline.

Ryan Oné transfer verdict

When asked about further potential exits at the club before the window closes, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, from Blades Ramble, suggested Ryan Oné.

He believes the forward might get pushed down the pecking order by Cannon’s arrival, so a loan move might prove beneficial for his career at this stage.

“Well there’s always fringe players involved in the squad, as we all know, so not everyone can get in the first XI,” Jimmy told Football League World.

“That’s how it is.

“But, if we strengthen like we’re hoping to do and Tom Cannon comes in, it pushes Ryan Oné, for example, 18-years-old, really good prospect of a striker, pushes him further down the pecking order.

“If he’s going to get less minutes, then I’m not sure he’ll be pushing to get a move away, but we might be keen as a club to get him out, get him playing more regularly further down the league.

“So I don’t think that would be a bad move at all.

“Maybe Rhian Brewster doesn’t want to be fourth choice striker when we only play one up front, behind Tom Cannon, Kieffer Moore and Tyrese Campbell, so they might be considerations [for a departure].”

Ryan Oné loan would make sense with Cannon coming in

While Oné has the versatility to his game to play across the frontline for Sheffield United, Cannon coming in is likely to reduce his minutes up front in the second half of the campaign.

In that case, a loan move to somewhere further down the Championship, or perhaps even League One, could be what he needs at this stage.

Playing regularly would be great for his development, and he’s shown enough for the Blades to indicate he could do that lower down the pyramid.
