🇩🇪 Dortmund defeated at home in Niko Kovač's first game in charge | OneFootball

Niko Kovač lost in his first game as new Borussia Dortmund boss with a 2-1 loss against Stuttgart at the Westfalenstadion.

Scorers: Brandt 81'; Anton OG 50', Chabot 61'

After a scoreless first half, the visitors struck five minutes after the break for the opener and it came from a familiar face as Waldemar Anton put through his own net against his old employers by steering in a low cross from Chris Führich.

Things quickly got even worse as Kovač learned the size of his task in Dortmund when they fell further behind as Jeff Chabot calmly sidefooted a volley in at the back post to capitalise on some disastrous defending from the hosts.

Dortmund did come within inches of pulling one back quickly but an effort from Jamie Gittens was tipped onto the crossbar by Alexander Nübel.

Although they did pull one back through Julian Brandt in the closing stages, it wasn't enough to prevent them sliding to a fifth defeat from their last eight games, with Julian Ryerson also dismissed for a second yellow card in injury-time.

The result means that Stuttgart have moved above Leipzig into the top four, while Dortmund remain in 11th.
