Multiple outlets report that Bayern Munich defender Eric Dier will leave the club in the summer and join AS Monaco on a free transfer.
Dier’s contract at the Allianz Arena was set to expire in the summer, and Bayern were in talks over a possible extension for the 31-year-old. However, they failed as the Germans were unable to offer the same length of contract as the Principality side, which is a contract valid until 2027 with an option of an extra year, reports Sky Germany.
Bayern are aware of Dier’s decision and have already begun looking for replacements.
Bild reports that under former Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Adi Hütter, Dier is expected to receive more playing time in Monaco. However, Dier regrets the fact that he will have to leave behind long-time friend Harry Kane.
In recent weeks, Dier has received more playing time at Bayern due to the injuries in defence to Dayot Upamecano, Hiroki Ito and Kim Min-Jae. During his spell in the starting 11, Dier even scored his first two goals for the club, both headers from corners against Inter and Mainz.
