However, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi entrusted Calhanoglu with the usual starting role against Lazio.

In the view of the Corriere, Calhanoglu showed exactly why he is still Inter’s first-choice starter in holding midfield with his performance in yesterday’s match.

It was a tough midfield battle for Inter. Lazio made it very physical.

However, Hakan Calhanoglu looked very comfortable in keeping possession.

Even in tight spaces, the 31-year-old former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder would always find enough room for himself.

And Calhanoglu made the right decision with the ball time and time again. He was the metronome for Inter in possession as is often the case.

Calhanoglu’s performance was not enough for Inter to win the match after a late Lazio penalty.
