Yann Sommer registered another clean sheet in Serie A as Inter Milan beat fierce rivals Atalanta 2-0 in tonight’s Scudetto six-pointer.
Sommer addressed the press after the game via FCInterNews, branding the victory as an ‘important’ step toward another league win.
Brimming with confidence after a stunning comeback against Monza last weekend, Inter sought an eighth straight win against Atalanta.
Indeed, Simone Inzaghi has been a thorn in Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, beating La Dea twice this season before tonight.
However, the pressure was on the Nerazzurri after Napoli dropped two points in a scoreless draw at Venezia earlier today.
Carlos Augusto fired Inter 1-0 up at the start of the second half before Lautaro Martinez sealed the deal in the 87th minute.
Therefore, Inter will enter the international break four points clear of Napoli and six away from Atalanta.
“It’s an important step (towards the Scudetto), but nothing more,” Sommer admitted.
“There are still nine games to go, but of course, winning against such a strong opponent like Atalanta is a big statement for us.

“We had great energy, won many duels, and didn’t allow too many chances.
“We have to play every three days, and it’s easier when we bring this kind of energy. I’m very happy with today’s performance.”
Meanwhile, Sommer opened up on his goalkeeping rivalry with Josep Martinez.
“Well… He did well when he played.
“We are a big club, and it’s important to have three top-level goalkeepers.
“Anything can happen, and another keeper might have to step in. He’s done really, really well. We are a team.”
Finally, he shared his thoughts about a crucial save to deny Mario Pasalic’s header in the first half.
“It was an important moment. I was well-positioned and just had to take a step back.
“There are key moments in games, and at 0-0, it was crucial not to concede a goal.”
