Former Inter Milan defender Walter Samuel feels AC Milan are “dangerous” but the Nerazzurri are still favourites in the Supercoppa Italiana final.

Samuel gave his thoughts ahead of the final in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter take on AC Milan in the Supercoppa final this evening.

The two sides have met on quite a few occasions in recent years. In addition to the usual Serie A matches, there have been clashes in the Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana, and Champions League.

Inter went on a run of six consecutive victories in the derby. This included winning the Supercoppa, knocking Milan out of the Champions League, and clinching the Serie A title.

However, Milan got some revenge in the last derby. They secured a convincing victory over the Nerazzurri in the first league meeting of this season.

Walter Samuel: “AC Milan Dangerous, But Inter In Top Form”

Samuel predicted that “it will be a difficult match” for Inter.

“Milan are dangerous,” the former Nerazzurri and Argentina defender continued. “They have the bounce from a new coach, and this is still a derby even if it isn’t being played at the San Siro.”

“However, Inter are at the level of the top teams,” he went on.

“And they’re currently in great form.”

Meanwhile, Samuel also gave his thoughts on the recent lack of goals from Inter captain Lautaro Martinez.

“There’s a lot of talk about him,” the former defender said of Martinez. “Too much, even.”

“All you have to do is miss one goal, and it seems like it’s a tragedy.”

But Samuel reassured that “There isn’t the slightest reason for alarm.”

Meanwhile, the former Inter defender said that Yann Bisseck’s growth “hasn’t surprised me.”

“It was to be expected,” he said. “And now, he’s growing with every match.”

“It’s not easy to find playing time in such a well-stocked defense,” Samuel noted. “There’s also Pavard, who certainly knows how to play there.”

Samuel then said that Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni is “one of the best defenders in Italy, if not the best.”

And of young defender Tomas Palacios, Samuel said that “The same thing applies as with Bisseck – patience and trust.”
