Tottenham’s defensive issues have been a recurring theme this season, with injuries plaguing the team’s backline.
As the club seeks reinforcements, one name has emerged as a potential answer: Alexsandro Ribeiro.
The Brazilian centre-back, currently shining in Ligue 1, has caught the attention of Spurs’ scouts and European football experts alike.
While Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been instrumental when fit, their absences have left a noticeable gap in the squad.
The team has relied on less experienced options in their absence, leading to inconsistent results.

European football expert Alex Barker has identified Alexsandro Ribeiro as an ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system.
The 25-year-old has flourished at Lille, showcasing a blend of physicality, composure, and technical ability.
Barker highlighted Ribeiro’s strengths in winning duels, defending one-on-one, and playing out from the back, which align perfectly with Postecoglou’s attacking philosophy.
Ribeiro joined Lille two and a half years ago and has steadily developed into one of Ligue 1’s top defenders.
His contract runs until 2028, making him a key asset for the French club. However, Tottenham’s need for defensive reinforcements could prompt an ambitious move in the January transfer window.
Barker noted during his analysis with The Athletic: "Ribeiro is not just a strong defender, he also brings quality on the ball. Ribeiro is comfortable on his weak foot, which means he can fill in on both sides.
"This flexibility also helps him play through pressure as he can play a wide range of passes."
Despite his impressive qualities, securing Ribeiro’s services won’t be straightforward, as Lille are unlikely to let him leave easily.
While Ribeiro’s addition could bolster Tottenham’s backline, several obstacles stand in the way.
His long-term contract at Lille ensures that the French side would demand a substantial fee, especially given his importance to their squad.
Tottenham may hesitate to invest heavily in a player viewed as cover rather than a guaranteed starter.
Additionally, Lille’s resistance to selling their star defender mid-season adds another layer of complexity.
For Ribeiro, a move to the Premier League could represent a significant career step, but Spurs must act decisively to make it a reality.
With the January window in full swing, Tottenham fans are keen to see whether the club will take the leap and pursue Ribeiro.
Could this Ligue 1 star be the solution to their defensive struggles? The answer may soon become clear.
