‘Football is emotional’ – Cunha has another meltdown as Wolves exit FA Cup

Matheus Cunha lost his head in a moment of madness as Wolves were knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties by Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Brazilian attacker scored a terrific goal on the hour mark to cancel out Evanilson’s first-half opener and take the game to extra time.
But the 25-year-old was sent off after taking a swing at and headbutting Cherries full-back Milos Kerkez in the 120th minute.
It’s the second time this season Cunha has been embroiled in a fracas after he was handed a two-match ban and fined £80,000 for scrapping with and stealing the glasses of an Ipswich Town staff member in the Premier League in December.
The former Atletico Madrid man’s punishment was reduced by the FA after he offered to replace the person’s eyewear, but he is unlikely to get with a lenient sanction on this occasion; a four-game ban appears likely.
Afterwards Wolves boss Vitor Pereira said he did not see the incident, but tried to explain that such episodes can happen in the pressurised environment of football.
“When the situation happened I was looking for the ball,” he told BBC Match of the Day.
“It means that I didn’t see the situation, but football is emotional and the level was very high today. Not only inside the pitch, but outside [the pitch]. With a lot of pressure, and in the end these are things that can happen.
“You know now he is frustrated, he is better in my opinion. I never speak to the team when we are nervous or frustrated. It is better to wait one day and think about everything. After we can have a talk.
“Of course, he is an important player, but next game we play with 11 and start with 11.
“We had the capacity to equalise the game in the second half and after that the injury limitations [impacted the team].”
