GdS: Another pause, same problems – Milan face familiar international break blues | OneFootball

Another international break is upon us, and they have not been kind to Paulo Fonseca so far in his time as AC Milan head coach.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport write, the international break doesn’t usually give coaches much peace because we enter realm of unknowns. Which players will be called up? How much will they play? Will there be any injuries?

Not only that, but it impacts the effectiveness of the work they can do in the fortnight because of how few players remain. Then there is the psychological aspect: going into the break after a bad result leaves a sour feeling that lingers.

So far this season Milan have entered three out of three breaks with a negative mood surrounding them. The first one was in September after the 2-2 draw with Lazio which extended the winless start and brought about a cooling break saga.

The second was in mid-October and that was even worse, because it was preceded by the terrible away game against Fiorentina, with the penalty mutiny that arose questions about Fonseca’s grip on the dressing room. Then, the consecutive wins against Udinese and Bruges put the situation right.

Now, with the third break of the season upon us, it is a case of ‘here we go again’. The situation is not serious from a disciplinary point of view, but the league table is a worry after the 3-3 draw against Cagliari which undid the good work from the victory against Real Madrid.
