Gimenez admits to being flattered by Milan interest: “When they called me I was like wow” | OneFootball

Santiago Gimenez has confirmed that AC Milan tried to sign him in the summer window, and admitted he was flatted by the interest.

It is no secret that Milan are big admirers of Gimenez, having been linked with him in multiple transfer windows. They are trying to get him at present too, with reports today suggesting that the aim is to sign the Mexico international prior to Sunday’s derby against Inter.

As if that weren’t enough, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was asked about the 23-year-old during the unveiling of Kyle Walker at Casa Milan yesterday, and he had nothing but words of praise.

Feyenoord have asked for 48 hours to reflect on things, but they want Gimenez for the Lille game to close the first phase of the UCL with a win and a shot at the top eight, especially after his brace against Bayern Munich showed that he can do it at the highest level.

Gimenez was a guest on the podcast ‘We Are Brave’ and in a long chat he was asked about the reports that he could have joined Milan in the summer, which he confirmed were true.

“I was continuing to improve, even though the media didn’t want to admit it and the statistics spoke for me. Then Nottingham Forest arrived and made an offer,” he began.

“Feyenoord weren’t convinced and asked me: ‘What do you want to do?’. I had other clubs talking to me and saying they would make other offers, so I decided to wait. The right time had come to go, after two years I had won almost everything with the Dutch club.

“On the last day Milan arrived and put half of what Nottingham had offered on the table and obviously the club refused. It would have been a great opportunity, other opportunities will come, but when they called me I was like: ‘wow’.”
