Hansi Flick fumes at refereeing decisions as Barcelona exit Champions League

Hansi Flick felt the referee gave “every 50/50 decision” against Barcelona during their Champions League semi-final defeat to Inter Milan.
As was the case in the first leg, La Blaugrana came from two goals to take the lead in the San Siro, with Raphinha scoring what he thought was the winner in the 87th minute.
But Francesco Acerbi equalised in stoppage time before Davide Frattesi grabbed the decisive goal in extra time, sending the Italian outfit to the final in Munich later this month.
Speaking to the media after the final whistle, Flick said he was not disappointed with his team’s performance on the night, but did take aim at the refereeing decisions during the match.
Inter were awarded a penalty on the stroke of half time following a VAR check. Referee Szymon Marciniak pointed to the spot after reviewing Pau Cubarsi’s foul on Lautaro Martinez, and Hakan Calhanoglu converted from twelve yards out.
Barcelona were given a penalty in the second half after Henrikh Mkhitaryan took down Lamine Yamal. However, it was cancelled when the VAR concluded that the contact took place outside the box, even though it seemingly continued into the area.
“I’m very disappointed that we’re out – but I’m not disappointed about the performance of my team. They tried everything,” Flick said.
“We’re out, but next year we’ll start again and we’ll make our fans, the club and everyone around us happy.
“They [Inter] are a really good team, a strong team who defend well but also they have a really good striker.
“In the second half we were really good. I don’t want to speak about the referee but every 50/50 decision was for them. We gave everything but in the end it was like that and that’s what made me a bit sad.”
Inter will now face the winner of the other Champions League semi-final between Arsenal and PSG, the second leg of which takes place in Paris on Wednesday night.
