Hansi Flick inching closer to beating Tata Martino’s special Barcelona record

Thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth, Barcelona seemed destined to lose against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano last night.
But against all odds, the Catalans secured one of the most memorable comebacks in recent times and won the game 4-2.
The victory over Diego Simeone’s men helped Barcelona extend their unbeaten run under Hansi Flick to 18 matches in all competitions.
Indeed, Barcelona’s last defeat under Flick came on December 22. Interestingly, it came against Atletico Madrid, with Simeone’s men clinching a narrow 2-1 victory at Montjuic.
Since then, Barça have been on a roll and are currently unbeaten in 18 matches. In fact, their current unbeaten run means coach Hansi Flick is closing in on Tata Martino’s record of 20-game unbeaten streak.
As such, if Barcelona can remain undefeated in their next three matches, Flick will surpass Tata Martino and will obtain second place in the club’s all-time unbeaten tally.

The record for the longest streak without a defeat, of course, is held by Luis Enrique, whose Barcelona side had gone unbeaten for 39 matches in 2016.
While even matching Enrique’s record could be far-fetched at the moment, Flick can certainly surpass Tata Martino’s tally. But it won’t be a walk in the park, by any means.
It must be remembered that Barcelona are facing a few difficult opponents, including Osasuna and Girona.
Osasuna had notably beaten Barça 4-2 earlier in the season while Girona can be a thorn for any top team thanks to their defensive solidity.
If Osasuna and Girona weren’t enough, Barcelona will also have to take on Atletico Madrid once again on April 3, this time in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal.
These three games will surely test Barcelona’s resolve. But if the Catalans can come out unscathed, they have the opportunity to beat Tata Martino’s long-standing unbeaten record of 20 matches.
