Thomas Tuchel heaped praise on Myles Lewis-Skelly after the Arsenal youngster’s impressive England debut.

The 18-year-old scored the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Albania in Tuchel’s first game, and had an overall outstanding performance.

On his impressive debut, Tuchel said: “He was amazing, he’s full of confidence and such a mature character. Very impressive, he does it with a natural confidence.

“A great performance, he is full of courage and quality. He was decisive and opened this game for us.”

Marcus Rashford started the game after being recalled to the England squad by Tuchel, while Phil Foden was also included despite a difficult season at Man City.

But Tuchel says he expects more from the duo despite a comfortable win for England.

“We will encourage him (Foden) to do his best and go at defenders and dribble,” Tuchel said on the Man City man’s performance. “Both of our wingers who started were not as impactful as they can be, as they are in club football.

“I am not sure why we struggled to move the ball to them quicker. I need to review the match. I think we lacked runs off the ball. There was too much passing and not enough dribbling. Not enough carrying the ball and driving with the ball. Not aggressive enough towards goal.”

Tuchel also praised aspects of his side’s performance, however, namely the start: “We started dominant in the match. Fluid with a lot of passes. But this is a difficult opponent.

“They play an unorthodox style. They have speed and physicality up front. I think we saw them in the form of the Euros where Spain, Croatia and Italy struggled against them. We managed to get our first win and first clean sheet.”

England play Latvia next up on Monday, and with only three days between the two games, it will be interesting to see what line-up the new manager chooses to go with.
