Augsburg entered the match as one of the Bundesliga’s most in-form sides, unbeaten in their last ten league games and yet to taste defeat in the Rückrunde.

A key factor in their success has been goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, who extended his remarkable run to 620 minutes without conceding as the match reached the seventh minute.

Despite Augsburg’s strong record, Hoffenheim looked determined to break through and came close in the 25th minute. With both teams battling for control, the first half remained finely poised, as Augsburg aimed to extend their unbeaten streak while Hoffenheim searched for a crucial breakthrough.

And it did not take long the the visitors to find it, as Samuel Assended expertly volleyed home just a matter of seconds into the second half, sending the travelling Augsburg contingent into raptures at the PreZero Arena.

The hosts were gifted a golden opportunity to equalise from the spot in the 71st minute, and Andrej Kramaric did exactly that with a perfect dink down the middle to see goalkeeper Dahmen concede for the first time in almost 700 minutes of Bundesliga football.

With the match remaining on a knife edge, both sides looked for a possible winner however, it was Hoffenheim with their tails up. And in the 84th minute, Hoffenheim were originally awarded a penalty after Dahmen punched the ball away and made slight contact with Haris Tabakovic.

After a much-expected review, Dahmen was cleared and the penalty decision was rescinded.

With the match reaching its closing stages, the scores remained at 1-1 before the final whistle saw Augsburg extend their unbeaten run to 11 Bundesliga matches.
