'I am stressed already': Amorim looks to reward fans' faith ahead of all-English Europa League final

United cruised past Athletic Club on Thursday to reach the Europa League final
Ruben Amorim is already sweating over Manchester United’s Europa League final, saying he feels pressure to deliver silverware to the fans after enduring a difficult domestic campaign.
United knocked Athletic Club out by way of four late goals in the semi-final second leg to set up an all-English final against Tottenham. The head-to-head does not make for good reading for United, though, as Spurs have won all three of the pair’s meetings so far this season.
Speaking after the semi-final, Amorim said he wanted to reward the fans; patience through a frustrating season with silverware. The Europa League has been the Portuguese’s saving grace as United sit 15th in the Premier League, and it is made more important by its potential to qualify United for next season’s Champions League.
Amorim said: “I am stressed already because of the final. [Winning] is the least we can do for these fans, all the support that they gave us in this tough season.
“If you don't win it, it is nothing. We are happy to be there, let’s see.”
He continued, apologising for his shortcomings: “I can see that I should be a better manager in this moment.
“The team should be better in this moment, but we are trying.
“It is more important to give [the fans] something than to put something in my sheet as a winner. That is it.”
United will play two more league matches before the final, facing West Ham and Chelsea, but as United’s domestic campaign is all but over, full focus is on preparing for the Europa League. Even United’s subpar recent record against Spurs is not affecting Amorim’s focus.
“In the moment, I just worry about the next game. I need to manage everything to not get injuries before the final.
"If you think about the odds, it's hard to lose 4 times in a row.
“As a player, I had just one final. I lost that one, but I am confident that will change.
“We need to study the game quite well. We need to have a little bit of luck. We need to be clinical.”
