It seems as if the financial side of things at FC Barcelona are still going to be a problem. Despite the best attempts of the club to sort out most of those issues, it seems that there is still much work to be done. In fact, La Liga has recently even made an official statement concerning the financial situation of Barcelona.
The league, led by president Javier Tebas, recently brought into question the club’s financial situation. As highlighted by Barça Times, La Liga released an official statement that confirmed that Barça’s sale of VIP seats, amounting to €100 million, was not accounted for in the club’s most recent financial submissions of their accounts.
This particular amount was crucial for the club to be able to register both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. After having been a recurring issue this season, there came a point where Barcelona felt rather confident about their ability to finally be able to field both of those players.
Unfortunately, due to La Liga’s official statement, Barcelona are now no longer in accordance with the 1:1 rule. They are now in a position where the league understands them to be exceeding the Financial Fairplay that they have been allocated, and the club still needs to admit that pending €100 million.
However, as highlighted by Reshad Rahman, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has come out in public to assure the fans of the club that they will be taking a stand against this and that the club is against this new statement completely:
“Don’t worry, we’ll respond back to La Liga. They want to attack our interests. They approved the signings of Pau Victor and Olmo and now they’ve changed their minds. Why? Did they do a bad job in the first place when they approved the operation?”
The club president further went on to question the possible intention of La Liga, especially given that this statement has just been released hours before the club takes on Atletico Madrid in a crucial Copa del Rey clash:
“We’re playing a key match tonight and La Liga is communicating this morning. Strange. They can’t beat us on the pitch, so they act off it.”
Moreover, the Barcelona president made sure to suggest that a strong response to La Liga and Javier Tebas can now be expected:
“Trust me, my response to La Liga and Tebas will be strong. As president, I cannot allow this.”
It now remains to be seen what ends up happening moving forward. The registrations of both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor are definitely compromised right now, even though one of the two is currently sidelined with an injury. However, at such a crucial stage of the season, Barcelona simply cannot afford to be distracted by such issues.
