For most of the summer, Athletic Club’s Nico Williams was the subject of transfer rumors. Williams drew attention from top clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, and PSG.

Despite the interest, the UEFA Euro 2024 winner remained with the Spanish side. The 22-year-old is under contract until 2027, so after this season, he’ll only have two more years left on his current deal.

After an impressive 2023-24 season, where he made 37 appearances for Athletic Club across all competitions and helped secure the 2024 Copa del Rey, Williams also played a key role in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 victory in Germany.

Unsurprisingly, his standout performances have drawn attention from some of Europe’s top clubs. Even though the player is a hot commodity, his older brother, Iñaki Williams, hopes they can play together for a while at Athletic Club rather than seeing him depart.

“I hope we can play together for as long as possible,” Iñaki said (h/t Diario AS). “He’s already said he’s really happy here at Athletic, and that it’s the best decision he’s made. He has no regrets, and that makes me happy. Sharing the locker room with him every day is the best thing, and I hope it lasts a long time.”

It will be interesting to see if PSG make a stronger push for the player next year or whether it’s time to cross him off their file list.
