Cole Palmer has opened up on leaving Manchester City and revealed why he didn’t want to leave the club permanently.
Palmer made the switch from his boyhood club to Chelsea in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £42.5m and hasn’t looked back.
The 22-year-old has established himself as a full England international and one of the best players in the Premier League.
Palmer won the Premier League Young Player of The Year in a record breaking debut season and has continued that form into this season.
The Englishman has 14 goals and six assists this campaign, although he’s suffering the first drop of form in his Chelsea career, failing to find the back of the net since January 14th and he missed his first penalty against Leicester.
Graeme Souness has warned critics of Palmer to back off, whilst fans certainly shouldn’t be concerned as all players go through a dip in form.

Palmer has been one of Chelsea’s best signings in recent times, and arguably the best under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership.
However, opening up on his decision to leave City, Palmer revealed he initially didn’t want to make the move to London and join Chelsea.
“I was so adamant for ages that I wasn’t going,” he said as quoted by Mail Sport.
“I’ve never moved out of Manchester. I really didn’t want to go. (But) you get a bit disheartened at City, why am I not getting a chance to play? You just know when you’re ready to play.
