Inter and Napoli are testing the waters about bringing Federico Chiesa back to Serie A given the tough start of his Liverpool career, but his rich salary is a problem for both. The Reds acquired him for €12M from Juventus last summer. He has logged just 123 minutes across all competitions due to a few physical problems and a general lack of conditioning.
According to Mediaset, Luciano Spalletti advised him to return to Italy. His agent Fali Ramadani will meet with the club soon. The Scousers’ management could sign off on a loan so he could play more regularly.
Chiesa would be keen on either Inter or Napoli, but the two sides consider his €7.5M salary too high. He’s under contract until 2028. Per Il Mattino (via Football Addict), the Partenopei won’t make exceptions to their cap in that regard, especially considering the ongoing negotiations to renew multiple deals. Even though Antonio Conte likes him, a few pieces would have to fit in the right places for him to join.
The Nerazzurri might have the inside track since they pursued him in the past and have a good relationship with him and his representative, Il Giorno reports (via Tuttomercatoweb). They could try to set up a loan with an option to buy if they parted ways with Marko Arnautovic, Joaquin Correa, or both.
Technically speaking, the Scudetto holders need him more, as they lack a change-of-pace guy up front, while the Azzurri are in decent shape in that regard. Still, his wages and the recency of his last transfer make him a long-shot target.
