Lautaro Martinez says that his defiant goal celebration in Inter Milan’s Serie A win over Genoa was a response to blasphemy accusations.
The Nerazzurri captain spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the match. He explained that the rumours of his using certain language bothered him, and his gesture was a response.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez scored the winner in this evening’s Serie A match against Genoa.
It certainly was not an easy match for Inter. Genoa put up a strong resistance, particularly around their own penalty area.
But as has been the case so often in the last few years, it was Martinez who popped up when his team needed him most.
The Argentine placed his header perfectly past Genoa keeper Nicola Leali from a Hakan Calhanoglu corner.
Then, after scoring, Martinez made a defiant gesture as he celebrated with the San Siro crowd. The Inter captain put his hands to his ears.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez said of his gesture that “Certain celebrations come from within.”
“When people talk a lot, and talk negatively about a person, it’s irritating,” the 27-year-old continued.

“What happened the other evening bothered me a lot,” Martinez said, referring to accusations that he had used blasphemous language in an angry outburst after last Sunday’s loss to Juventus.
“I’ve never cursed,” Martinez said. “I try to convey respect to my children.”
“It bothered me a lot,” Martinez admitted. “People know the kind of person and father I am, I’m at peace with myself.”
Meanwhile, the Inter captain also gave his thoughts on the win over Genoa this evening.
“It wasn’t a match of great quality from us,” Martinez admitted. “But we put our heart and soul into it.”
“It was important to take the three points after Sunday’s loss. That hurt badly for us.”
“We’re on our feet, always focused, and we try to win every match,” said Martinez.
“I’m happy with the win,” the Nerazzurri captain added. “For my teammates, and for the fans.”
