Many had thought Inter and Barcelona couldn’t replicate the thrill of last week’s 3-3 draw in the return fixture.

However, they went one better, providing a drama of epic proportions.

Like in the first leg, Inter went 2-0 up in the first half, with Lautaro Martinez among the main characters.

Indeed, El Toro opened the scoring with a routine finish before drawing a penalty on the stroke of halftime.

Yet, Barcelona turned the game on its head in the second half and entered stoppages on the front foot.

When it looked like Inter would end up empty-handed, Francesco Acerbi stunned Hansi Flick’s side.

Then, Davide Frattesi gave the Nerazzurri a new lead, though this time, there was no way back for Los Blaugranas.

Lautaro had to overcome a slight thigh problem to feature tonight.

A true warrior he is, El Toro didn’t let fatigue stand in his way as he rejoined the squad in time and led by example.

“I was struggling a bit, I felt my leg differently and couldn’t lift it,” he admitted after the game. “I spent two days crying at home, doing double training sessions.

“Though I wasn’t at 100%, I wrapped my leg tightly and stepped onto the field. That’s just how I am.

“I cried a lot with my wife and kids, but I promised that I would play today.

“Even my mom was worried; she called me in the morning, and I didn’t answer. Now she’ll send me a thousand messages.

“I didn’t finish well, but I’ll work to recover because there are many important games ahead.

“There are a lot of pressures and thoughts in here. Barcelona is strong, but Inter has been raising its level for five years.

“Today, we were almost out for a moment, but this team doesn’t die.”

Finally, he revealed how badly he wants to lift the famous ‘Big Ears.’

“A lot, from day one. From the day we lost the final.

“Now we need to recover our energy, then enjoy the final because we can still make history for this great club.”
