Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is eager to have Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan back after mixed displays by Kristjan Asllani and Piotr Zielinski.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter have been without a couple regular starters in midfield in recent weeks.
Hakan Calhanoglu has missed the Nerazzurri’s last three Serie A matches. And he’ll be on the sidelines for a bit longer.
Meanwhile, Henrikh Mkhitaryan missed out on matches against Venezia and Bologna. However, he returned off the bench against Empoli yesterday.
While Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan have been out, Kristjan Asllani and Piotr Zielinski have started.
Both have been part of the starting midfield trio in all of Inter’s last three matches.
There have been some positive aspects to both midfielders’ displays.
However, neither have really made the team tick the way that the regular starters do.
Inter have some key matches on the way.
There are Champions League outings against the likes of Sparta Prague and Monaco.
Then, at the start of February, Inter face AC Milan in the second league derby of the season.
And Inzaghi will certainly be glad to have his usual starters back in the centre of the pitch.
