For years in the Premier League, Manchester United’s matches were were known for “Fergie Time.”
Under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Red Devils had this never-give-up attitude, with last-minute goals becoming a trademark of their style.
This season, Atlético Madrid has embraced a similar mindset in La Liga. Over the weekend, they triumphed over Sevilla with a goal from Pablo Barrios in the 93rd minute, a moment that’s become typical for Diego Simeone’s team this season.
With Barrios’ goal, Atlético have now scored 16 times after the 90th minute, with 10 of those goals having a direct impact on the final score – 8 wins and 2 draws.
This has been particularly remarkable in La Liga. The goal scored this weekend marked their tenth injury-time goal in the competition. Villarreal are the closest with eight, while Barcelona and Real Madrid have both scored three.
It’s also worth mentioning Alexander Sørloth, who has been a key player in Simeone’s system. He’s appeared in 42 matches this season, starting only 15, and has scored 15 goals – averaging one every 114 minutes, with four of those goals coming in injury time.
